Boil water advisory issued for area in Howard County

A portion of Howard County is under a precautionary boil water advisory.

Consolidated Public Water Supply of Boone County, Missouri, released a statement that encourages customers to boil water used from 3:30 p.m. Monday through noon Wednesday if they are located west of the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 240 Spur, due to a water main leak and low water pressure.

If you are located in this area, the company suggests you take the following precautions:

Boil water for three minutes before using it for drinking, brushing teeth and any food preparation or consumption. Don’t use a household icemaker; if you need ice, boil water before making the ice or buy. Clean dishes for one minute in clean tap water to which one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon has been added.

Consolidated Public Water Supply District said water doesn’t have to be boiled for washing hands or bathing.
