Gift 4 Gun Exchange organized by Columbia resident

Columbia resident and 2 Real Fitness owner Cory Crosby wants to help get guns off city streets.

Crosby is organizing the Columbia Gift 4 Gun Exchange, which will offer $100 for every donated firearm. The exchange will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m-1 p.m at the Armory Sports Center at 701 E Ash st.

There is an online fundraiser open during the week to collect funds for the exchange. Crosby said the more money that is collected, the more guns can be taken off the street. The Indiegogo fundraiser opened four days ago, and had collected $450 as of Sunday.

After the exchange, the collected guns will be destroyed by the Columbia Police Department. Crosby said that while the Police Department is helping with the disposal of the guns, it is not directly involved with the exchange.

“I don’t want people thinking they will come here and get arrested,” Crosby said. “That’s not the goal. The goal is get the gun off the street.”

On Monday, the Columbia Police Department said in a Facebook post that 126 guns have been stolen from vehicles so far this year.
