Demonstrators protest GOP tax overhaul plan in Jefferson City

Around 30 people gathered in front of Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer’s office in Jefferson City Thursday to protest the Republican tax overhaul bill he supports.

At the demonstration, they presented a fake check for $275 billion, saying that’s how much money wealthy people would get from low and middle class families, if the measure is approved. The check was made out to the 1%, and it appeared to come from the taxpayers with President Donald Trump’s signature on it.

Protesters also took turns reading personal statements over their concerns with the bill, which is pending in Congress.

Those statements were written on postcards, which Republicans say will be the size of the new tax return form. They also included their names so Rep. Luetkemeyer can respond to each of them in writing, if he so chooses.
