Sedalia police arrest man accused of striking another man with gun, stealing his car

A St. Joseph man has been charged with robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, assault and driving with a revoked or suspended license after he was accused of stealing another man’s car.

According to the probable cause statement, a victim told Sedalia police that he was struck with a pistol before having his car stolen by suspects.

Police said they were able to locate the victim’s car on East Broadway Boulevard. A vehicle pursuit began but the driver, Kevin Collado, was later arrested.

Collado told police that a man named Preston Brown asked Collado to drive the car.

Collado told officers that he and Brown met the victim at a gas station. Both Callodo and Brown got into a car with the victim. Calldo said Brown and the victim began to get into an argument and the victim got out of the car and ran away.

Brown moved to the driver’s seat and drove off in the vehicle before telling Callodo to drive it to St. Joseph.

The victim identified Brown as the man who struck him with a gun and stole his car. Officers said the victim sustained an injury to the mouth that included the loss of multiple teeth.

Officers said they were able to obtain security camera footage from the gas station and saw Brown steal the car.

According to the probable cause statement, Brown has prior convictions for assault, tampering with a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
