Arnold officer in critical condition after shooting

A St. Louis-area police officer was left in critical condition after being shot Tuesday.

44-year-old officer Ryan O’Connor was shot in the head and the neck Tuesday afternoon in Arnold, Missouri.

He underwent surgery at St. Anthony’s Medical Center.

Police said the suspect, Chad Klahs, was arrested after a burglary and shooting investigation.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Capt. Gary Higginbotham, Klahs had a second gun and shot the officer outside the police station.

Police said the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
