Mizzou football headed to Texas Bowl
The Mizzou football team will play Texas (6-6) in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at 8 p.m. It’s the Tigers’ first bowl game appearance since 2014. The Texas Bowl will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Mizzou football coach Barry Odom and athletic director Jim Sterk addressed the media on Sunday about the bowl selection.
In a release, Mizzou football coach Barry Odom said, “I am so proud of our players and coaches for staying together and closing the 2017 season with six-straight wins to become bowl-eligible, and we look forward to playing Texas in Houston.”
The Tigers have played the Longhorns 23 times. Texas owns the head-to-head, 17-6. The two last played in 2011 – Mizzou won 17-5 over No. 21 Texas at Faurot Field. The Tigers and Longhorns have played only one other time in a bowl game. Texas beat Mizzou 40-27 in the 1946 Cotton Bowl.
Mizzou last appeared in the Texas Bowl back in 2009. MU lost to Navy, 35-13.
A release says Mizzou is allotted 8,000 tickets for the Texas Bowl.
“The tickets, which are priced at $125 (300 Club Level) or $85 (100 Lower Level), may be purchased online at mutigers.com/tickets. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the MU Athletic Ticket Office (1-800-CAT-PAWS) or in person at the Mizzou Arena box office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. TSF members and season ticket holders must place their orders by Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Noon, to receive priority.”
Mizzou (7-5) is currently on a six-game win streak. MU is the first SEC team ever to start the season 1-5 and finish the season with six straight wins. The Tigers ended the regular season with a 48-45 win over Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 24, to claim the Battle Line Rivalry trophy.
