UPDATE: Board of Education votes to remove commissioner immediately

UPDATE 12:30 pm: The Missouri State Board of Education posted to social media saying that the board voted 5-3 to remove commissioner immediately.

ORIGINAL STORY: Gov. Eric Greitens appointed a new member of the State Board of Education on Friday morning.

Eric Teeman was appointed hours after Claudia Greim resigned Thursday night.

Teeman of Raytown, is the owner of Visiting Angels, which is an elder care service provider. He is a former alderman for the City of Raytown. Teeman received his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and his master’s degree in business from the Keller Graduate School.

Greitens has been trying to get a majority of board members to oust current education commissioner Margie Vandeven. The attempt failed on a 4-4 tie last week when Greim broke ranks with Greitens’ other appointees and joined those appointed by previous governors in voting to keep Vandeven.
