Columbia police attempt to steer drug addicts to treatment instead of jail

Columbia police are trying to promote treatment instead of jail time for drug addicts.

According to police spokeswoman Bryana Larimer, the department has been providing its officers with information cards that list contact information for resources and signs of opioid overdose and overdose risk factors.

The department has also trained 130 officers in how to administer Narcan.
