Mizzou basketball falls apart late against No. 23 West Virginia

The Mizzou basketball team fell apart late and lost 83-79 to (23) West Virginia in the AdvoCare Invitational title game on Sunday night.

The Tigers fall to 5-2 (0-0 SEC). Mizzou had won three straight games coming into the night.

Jordan Barnett led Mizzou with 21 points as the Tigers finished 12-29 from three and shot 43 percent overall. Four different players finished in double figures. Before fouling out, Jontay Porter finished with nine points, four rebounds and five blocks.

Mizzou shot 57 percent from three and 43 percent overall in the first half. Kassius Robertson and Jordan Geist combined for 17 first half points as the Tigers held a 41-36 lead at the break.

Mizzou pulled ahead early in the second half as the Tigers led by as much as 16 points. However, West Virginia went on a 12-0 run in the final five minutes of play. The Mountaineers ultimately pulled away with a strong press forcing Mizzou to cough up a season-high 20 turnovers. West Virginia scored 45 second half points.

Next up for the Tigers is a matchup against UCF. The game is set for Thursday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m.
