Columbia police arrest man after early Sunday morning chase

UPDATE 12:15 pm: Oldham has been charged with assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to the probable cause statement, Oldham caused $5,000 worth of damages to the car he ran off the road. He also caused $1,000 to the patrol vehicle he ran into.

Oldham told police he ran the initial car off the road because he disagreed with the victim’s driving behaviors.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police arrested Blaize Oldham on Sunday morning after officers were dispatched the Broadway Walmart in reference to a serious traffic violation.

Police said Oldham’s car was following a victim’s car and intentionally struck the car multiple times, causing the victim’s car to go off the road.

Officers said they found Oldham in his car at Stadium Boulevard and Mick Deaver Memorial Drive and attempted a traffic stop. Oldham refused to stop and continued to drive away, police said.

A pursuit ensued and officers were able to eventually stop Oldham, but he struck a patrol car and proceeded to drive away, police said.

Another pursuit ensued, but officers were able to stop Oldham at a Petro Mart.

Police said Oldham got out of his car and resisted arrest.

Oldham was arrested and faces possible charges of assault, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, and resisting arrest.
