Columbia to host Opioids Summit to combat drug addiction

Columbia will be the next stop of the statewide effort to combat the opioid crisis in Missouri. City officials and health experts will gather and speak on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Courtyard Marriott. For more information on the event and a video of a previous summit, click here.

Columbia Mayor Brian Treece is hopeful the event will contribute in the effort to reduce the number of opioid-related hospital admissions and deaths.

According to Treece, there have been over 44 deaths caused by overdose in Boone County in the last four years. He also said the county has seen close to 800 emergency room admissions related to opioid use in the same period.
