Cole County firefighters responded to the 7400 block of Heritage Highway on Monday afternoon for a fire that was threatening a residence.

Firefighters said a resident had been burning leaves on Sunday and the embers reignited.

The fire has been extinguished but a half-acre of land was burned.

Firefighters do not have an estimate for the cost of damage.
