Three people sent to hospital after Highway 54 crash

Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a two-car crash on Highway 54 in Jefferson City.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Highway 54 in the westbound lanes.

Jefferson City police said a driver stopped his car in the passing lane to see if the driver in another single-car crash that had just occurred needed help. The stopped car was then hit from behind by another car.

Two people were taken to the hospital by ambulance and another was taken to the hospital by a relative. The extent of their injuries is unclear.

The westbound lanes of Highway 54 were shut down for about 45 minutes while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
