UPDATE: Police arrest two after foot chase, accused of stealing aluminum wire and water meters

UPDATE 11/17 1:03 pm: Daniel Reese was charged with stealing, trespassing and resisting arrest.

UPDATE 11/17: Columbia police arrested Daniel Reese and Markas Viley after a witness saw them stealing aluminum from the fenced in storage lot.

Police said the cable was valued at $173.16.

A supervisor in the area said the same suspects stole water meters from a fenced in Water and Light lot on Tuesday. Police said they reviewed video surveillance and Reese and Viley are seen driving the same vehicle and stealing 16 brass water meters.

Reese was arrested and faces possible charges of resisting or interfering with arrest, stealing and trespassing.

Viley was arrested and faces possible charges of resisting or interfering with arrest, stealing and trespass.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police detained two after a brief foot chase on Vandiver Driver on Thursday morning.

Police said the suspects were allegedly stealing aluminum wire from a lot off Ashley Street.

Officers said an unmarked car started to follow them and the suspects took off on foot. The suspects were taken into custody a short time later, police said.
