U.S. Rep. Hartzler praises House passage of tax package

U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler is praising the House passage of the Republican tax package known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R.1).

The Republican from Missouri’s 4th District said, “Today we voted to bring tax relief to hard-working families in Missouri and across the United States who, for too long, have had to focus on just getting by instead of getting ahead. This tax plan simplifies the tax code, allows Missouri families to keep more of their paychecks, and enables American businesses to grow, expand, and compete again in the world.”

The House passed the bill Thursday by a 227 to 205 margin, with only Republican votes in favor. The bill also had 13 Republicans vote against it.

President Donald Trump tweeted his approval of the legislation, calling it “a big step toward fulfilling our promise to deliver historic TAX CUTS for the American people by the end of the year!”

The non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation determined that the measure would “increase deficits over the 2018-2027 period by $1.4 trillion (not including the macroeconomic effects of enacting the legislation). By CBO’s estimate, additional debt service would boost the 10-year increase in deficits to $1.7 trillion.”

Senate Republicans are debating their version of the tax legislation in the more divided chamber.
