Next step for Keene Street roundabout? Public hearing on MoDOT’s contribution

The Columbia Area Transportation Study Organization (CATSO) will hold a public hearing on the $316,000 that MoDOT will contribute for the roundabout at the intersection of Keene Street and I-70 Drive. The total cost of the project is $326,000.

The Columbia City Council approved the roundabout in 2016, but, according to the agenda, construction isn’t slated to start until 2020. The intersection lies in Ward 1 of the city, which is the purview of City Council Member Karl Skala.

Skala told ABC 17 that he was unaware of the late start date and will work to hasten the process of construction. He said the roundabout was a priority when it was approved and he is determined to move the project along.

The roundabout was passed largely to alleviate congested traffic. A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car near the intersection on Keene Street, in October.
