Mother faces additional charges after being accused of leaving child unsupervised and dying in tub

Macon police arrested Ashley Hamblen on suspicions that she endangered the welfare of a child after her 4-year-old died in a bathtub at the beginning of September.

Officers said Hamblen later admitted to being outside, drinking and smoking marijuana at the time of the incident.

Hamblen was previously charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an amended complaint, Hamblen now faces the previous charges and two more counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree and keeping or maintaining a public nuisance.

According to court documents, Hamblen was charged with keeping or maintaining a public nuisance because she knowingly lived in an inhabitable structure and stored more than 35 grams of marijuana on the premises.

Hamblen was charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree after authorities said she knowingly encouraged and aided two children to enter into the inhabitable structure.
