Man arrested after being accused of punching and spitting in officer’s face

Columbia police arrested Robert Wallace early Sunday morning after a man approached an officer on Hitt and Broadway saying he had just been assaulted by Wallace.

Wallace refused to follow officers’ orders to stop as they were approaching him, police said.

Police said they ordered Wallace to face a wall and he responded by punching the officer in the face.

As Wallace was being restrained, he resisted by pulling his hands away and continued attempting to assault the officer, police said.

After Wallace was arrested and taken to the Boone County Jail, an officer attempted to search him and Wallace spit in the officer’s face, police said.

Wallace faces possible charges of resisting arrest, assault and peace disturbance.
