Crash on Highway 54 sends three people to the hospital

UPDATE: According to the traffic crash report, the crash happened when a Ford Taurus turned into the path of the Ford Edge. The vehicles came to rest partially off the roadway and both vehicles caught on fire.

Troopers said both cars are totaled.

One woman had moderate injuries and a baby and another female had minor injuries.

ORIGINAL: Emergency crews responded to a crash near Highway 54 and Summit Drive before 7:20 Wednesday morning.

ABC 17 News crews on scene saw two cars towed from the scene that appeared to have caught on fire. Holts Summit firefighters were on scene.

Traffic was temporarily stopped on the off ramp headed toward Jefferson City.

Three people were taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper on scene.

A woman involved in the crash appeared to have serious injuries. A child less than a year old and another adult reportedly had minor injuries, but went to the hospital as a precaution.

The scene was cleared and traffic returned to normal after 8 a.m.
