Planned Parenthood files lawsuit challenging SB 5

On Monday, Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit challenging a second provision of Senate Bill 5.

The bill requires abortion providers in Missouri have a so-called complication plan approved by the Department of Health and Senior Services.

Planned Parenthood said the plan has resulted in the loss of medical abortion services in Columbia and has narrowed mid-Missouri patients to surgical abortion centers.

“Enough is enough. We will not sit on the side of the sidelines while ideologues play regulatory games on the backs of Missouri women,” said Planned Parenthood Great Plains Interim President and CEO Aaron Samuleck. “The state’s treatment of Missouri women seeking sexual and reproductive health care is a disgrace and quickly turning into a national embarassment.”
