Columbia police arrest man accused of hiding in business, burglary

Columbia police arrested Jacob Ferguson on Saturday night after officers were dispatched to a business in the 1300 block of Vandiver Drive.

Police said the owner called 911 to report someone inside his business.

Officers said they found Ferguson hiding in a utility closet, and a cash register drawer open and damaged.

Police said Ferguson admitted he was a former employee and was able to enter the business through the front door using a key he still had.

Ferguson told officers he had taken $15 in nickels and dimes from the cash register, and stole more than $350 from the cash register the day before.

Ferguson was arrested and faces possible charges of burglary.
