Coldest Halloween in nearly two decades expected Tuesday

The Halloween forecast this year isn’t a “treat” for everyone, as cold air is setting its sights on Mid-Missouri once more.

Thanks to a cold front that has been tracking through the Midwest, temperatures will once more fall into unseasonable territory. High pressure over the western part of the country will slowly move into the Midwest through Tuesday morning. This will not only eat away the clouds that are currently in place over Mid-Missouri, but will lead to an unseasonably cold start to Halloween with lows in the upper 20s.

With temperatures through the day struggling to climb out of the lower 40s, it will be the coldest Halloween since 2002, when the thermometer only hit 42 degrees. This is just a degree shy of the forecast high for Tuesday. Over the years, Mid-Missouri has seen a large fluctuations in temperatures when it comes to the highs, but this year will feature a rare cold day.

In fact, the coldest high ever recorded on Halloween for Mid-Missouri was in 1953 and 1993 when the high only reached 39 degrees.

With temperatures struggling to climb out of the lower 40s for Halloween Tuesday, not only should you bundle up, but make sure you keep an umbrella handy with spot showers expected to track from the southwest.
