Parts of Centralia under boil order through Friday night

On Thursday, Centralia issued a boil order for City of Centralia water customers in these areas:

· South Central Street from Sims Street south to Locust Street
· All of Wright Court
· Sims Street from Coulter Street west to the west end of the street at the COLT Railroad

The boil order is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday because of a water main break on South Central Street.

The city said due to the break, water pressure may have dropped to a level that might allow back flow and contamination to the customers in the above affected areas.

If you live in the affected area, the city encourages you to boil water for three minutes prior to use.

You can also:
— Disinfect items like dishes and cups by immersing them for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
— Dispose ice cubes made with water dispensed after 8:00 a.m. Thursday and remake with water that has been boiled.

The city said water used for hand washing or bathing does not generally need to be boiled, but keep an eye on children to make sure the water is not ingested.

The water main has been repaired and flushed.
