Columbia man charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after officers find a gun in a glove box

William Barrett has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after officers pulled over a vehicle with him in it earlier in October.

According to the probable cause statement, officers initially pulled over a car for excessive window tint.

Police said they made contact with the driver and Barrett, the passenger. Officers said the driver admitted there was a gun in the glove box of the vehicle.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found the gun and loose marijuana on the floorboard.

The driver told police the gun belonged to Barrett and it had been in his possession for over a month.

According to public court records, Barrett is a convicted felon and not allowed to have a gun.

Officers said Barrett is a known drug dealer and user.
