Man arrested for assaulting employees at two separate Columbia motels

UPDATE: Madera has been charged with burglary and assault.

According to the probable cause statement, the door Madera broke is valued at $930.

The probable cause statement also showed Madera threatened police by saying he was going to take one of their firearms and assault them while they were attempting to arrest him.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police officers were called to an assault at the Suburban Extended Stay Motel on 3100 Wingate Court on Sunday morning.

According to the official release, the male victim said he heard a knock at his door and invited Madera into his room. The victim said he laid back down on the bed and Madera began punching him in the face.

The fight traveled from the victim’s motel room into the hallway, where a motel employee told Madera to leave.

The employee reported Madera then attempted to jump over the front desk counter and attempted to kick open a secured door leading behind the counter where the employee was.

The employee called 9-1-1 and the victim was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

At around 1:25 a.m., Madera was seen at the Wingate Inn Motel on 3101 Wingate Court by an employee.

He was seen kicking a locked door and used a patio chair to break the glass of the door.

The release went on to say that Madera crawled through the broken door. Employees confronted Madera, who then picked up a dining room chair and threatened to beat the employee. The employee went behind a secured door and activated an alarm. Madera headed to the front doors of the motel with the dining room chair and then he hit the front doors with the chair causing damage.

Madera did not have a room rented at the motel.

Officers found Madera at the Wingate Inn Motel. He was arrested for felony third degree assault, first degree trespassing, first degree burglary, three counts of fourth degree assault and first degree property damage.
