Columbia man charged with child exploitation

UPDATE 2/24: Dominguez remains in federal custody until his detention hearing at 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 28. The court ordered a public defender for Dominguez.

UPDATE: The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri says Dominguez was charged in a federal court today with child exploitation. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday, February 24.

According a press release, which cites an affidavit, an undercover law enforcement officer posted several online bulletin messages on social media forums. The messages were meant to attract individuals with a sexual interest in children. On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the undercover officer received an email from Dominguez.

The press release says Dominguez sent the undercover officer images and videos of a prepubescent toddler, including pornographic images and videos. Dominguez also allegedly asked the undercover officer to send him nude pictures of his purported 9-year-old daughter.

ABC 17 News crews were on scene when law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Dominguez’s residence Wednesday. The press release says officers seized five cell phones, a desktop computer and a digital camera with an SD card.

UPDATE: According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department jail records, Dominguez-Gonzalez is being federally held on suspicion of producing child pornography. Maj. Tom Reddin with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department says he cannot comment on the FBI’s investigation. Detective Tracy Perkins with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Cyber Crimes Unit also says she cannot comment.

ORIGINAL: According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department public jail records, a man is in the Boone County jail on a federal hold.

Sergio Antonio Dominguez-Gonzalez was booked Wednesday around 7 p.m.

Gonzalez’s listed address is Lakewood Apartments, the same address where there was an FBI presence Wednesday afternoon.

Our crews were on scene where they saw FBI cars as well as deputy vehicles.

A spokesperson with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Cyber Crimes Unit said they were helping out the FBI and it was not related to the ISIS incident.

FBI could only say it was performing an investigation.

According to public court records, Gonzalez has no crimes listed under his name.

We have called the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and are waiting to hear back.
