Tigers drop to Jayhawks in Showdown for Relief exhibition game

The University of Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team falls to the University of Kansas Jayhawks 87 to 93 in an exhibition game at the Sprint Center in Kansas City Sunday night.

The rivalry didn’t disappoint, but the Tigers would struggle to hold onto a 44-40 halftime lead against the Jayhawks.

Mizzou was led by freshman Michael Porter Jr., who was 6-20 from the field with 21 points. Senior Jordan Barnett chipped in 19 points on 7-10 shooting. Fellow freshman Jeremiah Tilmon was 5-5 with 10 points before he fouled out of the game.The Jayhawks were able to capitalize by making 52% of their shots. KU was senior DeVonte’ Graham with 25 points. Mississippi State guard transfer Malik Newman shot 5-11 with 17 points.

Mizzou did hit 44% from the three-point line going 14-32. The Tigers missed out nine points while going 11-20 on free throws.

MU also outrebounded KU 41 to 37.

The total attendance for the exhibition match was 18,951. More than $1,750,000 was raised for hurricane relief efforts.Next up for Mizzou is the Iowa State Cyclones at Nov. 10 at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers will look to get a win against their former Big 12 rival.
