Police investigating reports of gunfire in downtown Columbia

Columbia police officers were called to the area of Broadway and Hitt Street just before 11 p.m. Saturday for reports of gunshots.

Officers on scene told ABC 17 News people reported hearing the shots fired behind a church in the area.

Officers searched the parking lot and said they did not find any evidence of a shooting. Police continued to canvass the downtown area that was packed for the university’s homecoming weekend.

CPD also investigated reports of gunfire at the McDonald’s on Stadium earlier in the evening. Later in the evening, a man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a shooting near Grand and Austin Avenue.
