Man in critical condition after fire on Forest Avenue

UPDATE: The Columbia Fire Department Marshals Division is investigating after a man suffered life-threatening injuries in a fire on Forest Avenue Friday morning.

The Columbia Fire Department said the structure is made up of three separate apartments. The fire started in one of the units, where the man was located. Three other people were in a different apartment and escaped unharmed.

The department says flames were put out in five minutes and it caused about $5,000 in damage.

ORIGINAL: A man is in critical condition after a house fire on Forest Avenue in Columbia overnight.

The Columbia Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after 12:30 a.m. Friday to find smoke coming from the home.

Firefighters entered the house and were able to get the man out. He was immediately taken to a hospital.

No one else was home at the time of the fire.

According to the department, the fire was contained to one room.
