Jefferson City police arrest two, accused of attempting to stealing from Walmart

Jefferson City police arrested Joshua Rhodes and Sonja Valenzuela after officers responded to a Walmart for reports of stealing.

According to the probable cause statement, Rhodes and Valenzuela selected several items and placed those items into two carts.

Police said after a half hour of “shopping” Rhodes and Valenzuela left their carts in the store and exited the building.

Minutes later, Rhodes and Valenzuela returned and combined their carts into one, police said.

Officers said Valenzuela then pushed the cart past all points of sale while Rhodes went and distracted the door greeter.

As they were exiting the door they were stopped by employees, neither of them had any kind of cash or credit cards on them, police said.

Police said when they interviewed Rhodes he said he thought Valenzuela paid for the items but could not explain why neither of them had any kind of payment on them.

Officers said when they interviewed Valenzuela she said she attempted to steal because she was bored.

The total amount of items that were attempted to be stolen were $736.88

Rhodes and Valenzuela were charged with stealing.
