Cooper County Memorial Hospital exploring possible acquisition for new hospital

The Cooper County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees said it has signed a letter of intent to begin negotiations with Rural Hospital Group of Kansas City for a possible acquisition.

” The Board of the hospital has been actively seeking the best path forward to lead the hospital into the future and help foster the financial load of operations,” said Mike Conway, Chairman of the Board.

The Board said RHG has committed to build a 29,000 square foot hospital directly in front of the current hospital.

The hospital would keep the same name, clinical services and hospital departments.

The Board said the 145 Cooper County Memorial Hospital employees would be offered similar positions if the acquisition with RHG is successful.

“RHG brings us a new vision for health care in our community and an outstanding opportunity to continue to serve our citizens with a high level of emergency, acute, skilled and intermediate care as well as outpatient services including our Rural Health Clinic,” said Interim CEO Mark Hirshberg.

Hirshberg would stay on as CEO, according to the Board.

After the acquisition, RHG would create a local advisory board made up of local physicians and community leaders to provide recommendations for patient care, clinical services and community needs.
