Columbia sees 6 gun-related incidents in 4 days

Columbia police responded to the sixth gun-related incident in just four days early Friday morning.

A resident on Fir Place told ABC 17 News that he woke up to the sound of multiple gunshots around 3:15 a.m. and immediately called 911.

Police said when they arrived, they found multiple shell casings.

Thursday evening, Columbia police were dispatched to the 3500 block of Clark Lane for reports of a home invasion.

According to a news release, the resident of the home answered the door and two men forced their way inside and indicted that they had a gun.

Police said the men stole several items and fled the area without injuring the resident or damaging any property.

Barely 24 hours before the home invasion took place, a 17-year-old was shot in the head in the 4200 block of Bethany Drive, Boone County deputies said.

Deputies said the victim was injured by gunfire from outside the residence around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Even though the shooting was located in the county’s jurisdiction, the residence is technically within Columbia city limits.

Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Columbia police responded to the 300 block of Hitt Street in reference to a suicidal subject with a gun.

A few buildings at the University of Missouri, which is located in the area, were put on lockdown at the time.

Police said the suicidal subject, a woman, was roaming on the campus after she abandoned her vehicle on Elm Street.

Police found the woman just before 1 p.m., but said they didn’t find the gun that they believed was hers until 20 minutes later.

A few hours before that incident, Columbia police responded to 3905 Clark Lane, Casey’s Convenience Store, for reports of gunshots.

Police said when they, arrived they found multiple shell casings.

They said after a preliminary investigation, they found that a silver vehicle drove up to another vehicle in the parking lot, and that the suspect, or suspects, inside the silver vehicle started shooting at the other.

Police said it was unclear if the person or people inside the second vehicle ever fired a gun, but both vehicles fled the area in opposite directions.

A gas pump and a bystander’s vehicle were damaged from gunfire, police said.

Another shooting occurred with two vehicles around 6 p.m. Tuesday, not far from the Casey’s Convenience Store, police said.

Columbia police responded to the 3500 block of I-70 Drive Southeast for reports of gunshots.

Police said they found one shell casing in the area.

After the initial investigation, police believe that occupants of two vehicles fired shots at each other.

Five of the six incidents are under investigation. The only incident resulting in someone in custody was the one involving the suicidal subject with a gun.
