Columbia teenager charged with assault after he was accused of punching a student several times

Triston Stewart, 17, was charged with assault after Columbia police were dispatched to Battle High School in September.

According to the probable cause statement, Stewart struck another student in the face several times causing a laceration to his lip that could have required medical treatment.

Police said the student is mentally disabled.

The student told police he was knocked unconscious. Police said they noticed the student’s face was red and swollen.

Police said the argument was over the student telling Stewart he could not use his car to smoke marijuana.

Stewart admitted to police he struck the student in the face with a closed fist several times. He also told police the student fell to the ground but was unsure if he lost consciousness.
