Columbia police update community on future station

The Columbia Police Department shared more on its plans to build a new station in the north of part the city on Thursday.

The project is expected to cost the department $9-10 million and will be built near Rangeline Street and International Drive.

Police said the new facility will not only serve the department, but also the community.

“Its obviously going to be a space that is available to do kids activities, things of that nature,” said deputy chief Jill Schlude. “Then, just beyond that, it’s going to be a fully autonomous police station.”

The department hopes to move into the new building in the next two years.
