Montgomery City police arrest man accused of refusing to pull over, hitting street sign

Montgomery police arrested Robert Lewis Jr. after officers noticed his vehicle had plates registered to another car.

According to the probable cause statement, police attempted to pull over Lewis on South Walker Street on Monday.

Police said Lewis failed to yield and continued on South Walker Street toward Popular Street at a high rate of speed.

Officers said Lewis tried to make a sharp turn onto Rose Street, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and drive over the “Rose Street” sign, breaking it in half.

Lewis stopped his car in the 600 block of South Walker Street and began running toward West Ford Avenue, police said.

Officers said they lost sight of Lewis, until minutes later when another officer spotted him on South Walker Street and Lewis was arrested.

According to the probable cause statement, Lewis’ driver’s license was revoked in 2009.

Lewis was charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked license.
