Court documents detail man’s 30 minute joy ride through Mizzou Arena
ABC 17 News has gotten court documents that detail a man’s half hour joy ride through Mizzou Arena in June.
Nathaniel Conant was just charged with four counts of property damage in early October. ABC 17 news picked up a probable cause statement in the case which detail what Conant is accused of.
The documents say police responded to Mizzou Arena for a reports of damage to two gates leading to the northwest parking lot.
Police were apparently able to link Conant to the crime after finding a license plate from Conant’s car and his cellphone on scene.
Court documents say there is video of the entire incident. Police apparently watched surveillance footage of the crime.
They say the video shows Conant driving into the facility at 4:12am. He apparently broke the rolling south gate off it’s frame and control mechanism to get in.
Court documents say Conant then nearly tore off the bottom half of a garage door as he kept driving into the arena. They say he then hit two golf carts, pushing them up to 40 feet away.
Police say Conant’s car also hit a basketball standard while it was rolling onto the main court. They say his vehicle left tire marks and coolant on the court before he drove back through the hole he’d made in the garage door.
Court documents say at this point, the video shows Conant get out of his car and wander around the arena. He was apparently only wearing a ball cap and shorts.
Police say Conant then gets back in his car and tried to leave the arena through the south gate. They say he left a dent in that gate before moving on to the Press Gate and smashing through it to get out.
Court documents say the video shows Conant left the scene at 4:55am, just more than 30 minutes after he first drove in the arena.
The probable cause statement gave the following damage estimates for the incident:
Rolling South Gate: $50,000.00
Dock 1 Garage Door: $25,000.00
Press Gate: $2,500.00
Golf Carts: $15,000.00 each (2)
The total estimated cost for the damage done was $107,500.00.
Conant is scheduled to appear in a Boone County court next on November 7th for a case review.
