Boone County deputies arrest man accused of threatening woman with gun, hitting her

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department arrested Derrick Petty after they responded to a disturbance in the 1800 block of Sycamore Hills Road.

According to the probable cause statement, Petty was inside a trailer waving a handgun around at a woman.

Deputies said they ordered Petty to exit the trailer with his hands up.

Petty came out of the trailer and was placed in handcuffs while officers talked with the victim, deputies said.

The victim told deputies Petty hit her in the upper arm and punched her in the left thigh, he also placed his hands around her throat causing her pain and injuries.

Deputies said Petty is a felon and is prohibited to have a gun in his possession.

The victim told deputies Petty was also waving around the gun and threatened to “shoot anyone who comes through those doors” and that he would “shoot up the truck if she was to leave.”

Deputies said Petty attempted to conceal the gun in the air register on the floor then pull the dresser over the air vent.

According to the probable cause statement, Petty has a history of armed criminal action, domestic assault and felonious restraint.

Petty is charged with domestic assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
