A strong cold front brings cooler than average temperatures on Sunday

A strong cold front this weekend has cooled temperatures dramatically, falling nearly 30 degrees from Saturday to Sunday. Though much of October has seen slightly above-average temperatures throughout October, we will be feeling cooler for the next several days. In fact, overnight lows Sunday night will be the coolest we have seen so far this season dropping to near 40 degrees, with upper 30s possible north of I-70. Thanks to clear skies and calm winds on Sunday night, we will experience radiational cooling, helping us achieve these low temperatures. Unfortunately, this will still not be cool enough to bring us our first freeze.

The average high in Mid-Missouri for October is 67 degrees, with the average low being 45 degrees. As we head into the week ahead temperatures will remain near average for mid October, remaining mild. As high pressure tracks off to the east, we’ll see a return of southerly winds bringing warmth and moisture. This will lead to increasing temperatures through most of next week, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and lows into the 60s by the end of next week.
