Series of car break-ins outside Columbia movie theater

Police responded to 17 calls Friday night in what appears to be a series of car break-ins. The calls were from the Regal Stadium 14 movie theater, also known as Hollywood Theaters, and all came between the hours of 11:27 p.m. and 1 a.m Saturday morning.

Four of the calls are listed on dispatch records as a larceny, the other 13 as vandalism. When a car is broken into but nothing is taken, it’s possible for the call to be listed as vandalism.

One man told ABC 17 that he saw multiple cars in the lot outside the theater had broken windows.

Columbia Police have not yet confirmed any details of what happened.

In the first nine months of 2017 there have been 534 reported thefts from cars, totaling almost $260,000 worth of stolen property.
