Jefferson City man charged with burglary, accused of being the suspect of several burglaries

A Jefferson City man was charged with burglary after he was accused of being a part of several burglaries in the city.

According a probable cause statement, in June police responded to a residence in 3300 Country Club Drive for reports of a burglary to the residence.

Police said entry was forced through an exterior door and the homeowners reported that jewelry was taken.

In July, police responded to the 700 block of Stanford for a reported burglary to the residence.

Police said jewelry, a cellphone, checkbook and a laptop computer were stolen.

Officers said the victim came home to the front door of the residence open and items inside of the home were in disarray.

On Tuesday, the Cole County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant for stolen items regarding ongoing burglary investigations they were working on.

During the search, the checkbook from Stanford Street was found.

Christopher Council was taken into custody and admitted to burglary and forcing entry into the Country Club Drive residence.

Council admitted that in both burglaries, he took the items to a pawn shop and sold them for cash.

As of Thursday, Council is currently in the Cole County Jail.
