Police find shell casings near Douglass Park

Columbia Police told ABC 17 News they found two shell casings in the intersection of Fifth Avenue at Rogers Street Monday morning.

Initial calls indicated it was someone shooting fireworks out of a white car near Jefferson Junior High. The school is one block away from where the shell casings were found.

Michelle Baumstark with Columbia Public Schools said the incident impacted Ridgeway and Jefferson and all students are safe. CPS sent a text to parents at both schools. Both schools also have buzz-in systems in place and are continuing with normal school schedule as police investigate.

Police told ABC 17 News there are no reports of injuries or property damage. They also did not get any description of who may have been inside the car.

ABC 17 News will continue to update this story as more details become available.
