Columbia Public School District: 46 applications for Lee renaming committee

The Columbia Public School District posted the Lee Elementary renaming committee application on its website just over a week ago, and so far 46 people have applied.

You can apply to the committee by clicking this link.

That’s up from the 27 applications received as of Sept. 27.

The committee will consist of 13 members; two have already been chosen and are nonvoting members.

One more member of the committee was also chosen Tuesday night, which is the member who will represent the Lee Autonomous School Board.

Board members said the name of their representative will be released either at the CPS Board of Education meeting Monday night or when the rest of the committee members are chosen.

ABC 17 News contacted the president of the Lee Parent Teacher Association, and she said the PTA has not taken an official position on the renaming committee and process yet.

The deadline to apply to be on the renaming committee is Oct. 13, and a drawing from the applications will be done Oct. 16.

CPS administration has not reviewed any of the current applications yet.
