Two charged after arrest near Hickman on drug, weapons crimes

UPDATE: Both men have been charged after Monday’s arrest near Hickman High School.

Jamel Tackett is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

Frank Gray also faces those charges as well as stealing a firearm and property.

ORIGINAL: Two Columbia men were booked into the Boone County Jail Monday after being arrested near Hickman High School.

Police said the school resource officer for Hickman was contacted just after 12:30 p.m. about the two suspects trespassing on school property.

CPD sent additional officers to the scene who tried to confront the two men who police identified as 18-year-olds Jamel Tackett (top) and Frank Gray (bottom).

According to officers, the two men walked away when approached by police but returned to the property shortly after they were no longer being followed.

Officers arrested the two men and found guns and Alprazolam pills in their possession.

The police report said the gun that Gray was holding was a stolen firearm. Police said he also had a credit card that was reported stolen earlier that day in a car theft.

Gray was arrested on suspicion of felony unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of felony stealing, felony possession of a controlled substance and first-degree misdemeanor trespassing.

Tackett was arrested on suspicion of felony unlawful use of a weapon, felony possession of a controlled substance and first-degree misdemeanor trespassing.

The bond amounts for Gray and Tackett have not been set as of 8 a.m.
