An active weather pattern begins today

TODAY: Morning temperatures will be mild, starting off in the mid to upper 60s. It will continue to be a breezy day Tuesday, with winds out of the south up to 16 mph. Despite the southerly winds, it won’t be as hot. Clouds building into the region will keep temperatures down. Highs will top out in the low 80s, some areas only reaching the lower 70s. By the afternoon, showers and storms will begin to track into Mid-Missouri from the southeast. Areas south of I-70 will see a greater chance for scattered storms. This will lead to a multi-day rain event that will bring beneficial rain to Mid-Missouri.

TONIGHT: The cold front will drop into mid-Missouri allowing for a better chance for scattered thunderstorms through the overnight hours. Skies will remain cloudy with winds out of the south up to 6 mph. Temperatures will dip into the mid 60s. No severe weather is expected.

EXTENDED: The frontal boundary will stall out through the day Wednesday. This will not only bring beneficial rain to Mid-Missouri, but also an increased chance in seeing some flash flooding. Many showers and storms that develop are expected to sit over the same area for some time. The rain chances hold on through the majority of the week as upper level disturbances push into mid-Mo. The severe threat is not present through the entire week, but heavy rain with amounts in excess of 3 inches are possible by the end of the week. Heaviest amounts will be along and west of Hwy 63. Due to the rain and frontal boundary, we’ll see temperatures drop from the mid-80s into the low to mid 70s as we carry on through the week.
