Four-year-old dies in trailer fire in Moniteau County

A four-year-old has died on Monday after Moniteau County Deputies responded to a trailer on fire located in McGirk.

Deputies saw smoke coming from the trailer and were told that a child may be inside.

Deputies tried to get into the trailer through the front door, but couldn’t get through the flames. They broke out a window in the back of the trailer and were able to get inside.

Deputies tried to find the child through heavy smoke until the fire department arrived on the scene. Fire department personnel found the child and took the child outside to a waiting ambulance.

The child was taken to a hospital in Jefferson City, but did not survive.

According to the official release, three Moniteau County deputies were sent to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and were released.

The investigation is ongoing.
