Man charged with multiple offenses after deputies respond to domestic dispute with weapons call

UPDATE: According to the probable cause statement, deputies were flagged down for reports of a domestic assault by Mears.

Deputies said the person who flagged them down was the victim who had been in an intimate relationship with Mears.

Deputies said the victim told them she had been assaulted by Mears multiple times over the past several days at his residence.

Deputies said Mears pulled a black handgun on the victim and pointed it directly at her.

Mears allegedly said, “Get on the ground and start praying to God,” before he hit the victim multiple times with the butt of the handgun, deputies said.

The victim said Mears threatened to kill her if she told anyone, deputies said.

Deputies said the victim told them that Mears caused her to lose consciousness on another occasion.

Mears allegedly put both feet on the victim’s neck and started to put pressure down, deputies said.

The victim told deputies she lost consciousness for approximately 3-4 seconds.

On Tuesday, the victim said Mears grabbed her around the mouth and jaw and forced her against a couch.

The victim told deputies she was able to get away by grabbing and pinching him on his chest.

Deputies said they noticed multiple lacerations on the victim’s scalp along with bruises and marks all over her body.

ORIGINAL STORY: Callaway County deputies arrested Christopher Mears, 39, on Tuesday after officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving weapons.

Deputies said when they arrived at the home in the 5000 block of State Road E west of Auxvasse, Mears had left the property.

Deputies said Tuesday evening a deputy located Mears operating a vehicle on Highway 54 in Fulton, where they arrested him.

On Wednesday, Mears was charged with felony domestic assault, armed criminal action, tampering with a victim, tampering with evidence and unlawful use of a weapon.

Mears is in the Callaway County Jail without bond.
