One dead, one hospitalized after boat explodes at Lake of the Ozarks

UPDATE: 6:30 a.m.: Susan Abele – Burns, 58, is in critical condition at University Hospital.

UPDATE: Ronald Moore, 76, was pronounced dead at a hospital following Sunday’s explosion, according Missouri State Highway Patrol.

ORIGINAL STORY: A boat exploded and burned at Lake of the Ozarks while at the gas pumps near Pier 31, sending two people to the hospital with serious injuries, Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms.

Sgt. Scott White, with Troop F, told ABC 17 News law enforcement officers went to Pier 31 at 12:13 p.m. White said initial reports showed the fire was out but two people had serious burns.

When the trooper arrived, the boat was away from the gas pump but was fully engulfed in flames.

Staff for Life arrived and took the two victims to University Hospital.

Investigators say they are still working to determine what caused the boat to go up in flames.
