Grand Jury indicts Cole County man after multiple felony offenses

On Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Robert Stapleton after multiple felony offenses.

According to the indictment, Stapleton knowingly possessed a handgun in August after being found guilty of the felony of assaulting a law enforcement officer in the past.

The indictment also states Stapleton was found possessing marijuana in August, and in May, possessed MDMA and oxycodone intending to distribute.

Stapleton is a prior drug offender and a persistent drug offender, the indictment states.

In May, an officer was attempting to stop Stapleton, when Stapleton fled from the officer in such a way that created a substantial risk of serious physical injury to anyone on the road. Stapleton was driving a vehicle exceeding the speed limit and ignoring all traffic control devices, the indictment states.

Stapleton currently has a bail set at $50,000.
