Second Columbia church becomes sanctuary church
A second church in Columbia is now designated as a sanctuary church.
Members of Rock Bridge Christian Church voted Sunday to become a sanctuary church, which means the congregation is willing to house someone who is at risk of deportation.
Rev. Sarah Klaassen said the church’s stance was in response to a recent harder line in the country on immigration policies.
Klaassen said people of faith must stand together with people who do not have legal documents who do not want to leave their families.
The first church in Columbia to become a sanctuary church was the Unitarian Universalist Church.
