SPECIAL REPORT PREVIEW: Trooper Training

It’s been more than three years since 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson died while in highway patrol custody at the Lake of the Ozarks.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of boating while intoxicated and later fell off the patrol’s boat and drowned.

The trooper, Anthony Piercy, pleaded guilty to negligent operation of a vessel last month and is expected to learn his sentence on Tuesday.

In an ABC 17 News Special Report, Joe McLean examines how the division has changed in the years since Ellingson’s death and what some say can still be improved within the state’s highest law enforcement agency.

You can watch the full report Monday, September 18 on ABC 17 News at 10 on KMIZ.
